OK so I am a huge Batman fan, have been ever since I was a kid. Christopher Nolan is an amazing filmmaker, however I feel like The Dark Knight was a great film but there are certain areas that didn't click for me.
First off I feel like at certain points in this film, the intensity and realistic approach that Nolan takes loses comic book appeal. In Burton's films, he managed to get that right. In both Batman and Batman returns, the dark comic book type scenery etc is what helped give it that overall comic book feel. I didn't feel like that with the Dark Knight.
Second, I can't stand Christian Bale. The guy is a good Bruce Wayne but when he plays Batman he is awful. The voice he does absolutely cracks me up when I hear it. Seems as if they haven't found an actor yet who can play a good Wayne and Batman since Keaton.
Third Michael Caine isn't that great of an Alfred, don't ask me why but I can't stand the guy.
Fourth, why can't they go back to the Batman theme like in 89? That was one of the best theme songs ever. Hans Zimmer and Howard do a great job don't get me wrong but why take away a great thing like in 89? 5th, OK and finally I know people will hate me for this but I liked Jack Nicholson's joker way better Heath Ledger. Now before people start going nuts at me, let me explain why. Ledger portrayed the Joker the way Nolan wanted which was a more serious and psychotic character whereas Nicholson play a psychotic character who was more laughable and crazy like that. Ledger was fantastic in the way he portrayed the character which is why he won an Oscar but Nicholson's Joker in my mind fits the way the Joker was intended to be like... comic, funny, insane, etc.
Finally this movie would not of been nearly as successful if Ledger had not gone the distance and carried the movie on his shoulders. In fact I would even say without Ledger Batman Begins would of been a better movie considering the plot.

There are not really a lot of summer movies like this. In fact very few summer movies have the level of film making that The Dark Knight has.
Now coming from a really really big fan of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings that's saying a lot. But I really enjoyed this movie. Chrisitan Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, and Maggie Gyllenhaal all did a great job.
As for Ledger as the Joker. Well he really became what the Joker is for this movie. No I'm no saying that because he dead. Really any one who brings that up as a reason for why I said he did a good job needs help. No he really did do a great job. So did Aaron Eckhart as Harvery Dent/Two-Face. In fact he brought Two-Face back from the dead after Batman Forever. He played him the way Two-Face should have been insane. He's not a funny guy he's insane.
Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and Gary Oldman well what can I say other then all three men did a fine fine job. Then there is Maggie Gyllenhaal she did a great job being Rachel Dawes and was much better then Katie Holmes. Sorry to all the Katie Holmes fans but she's not that great.
Chrisitan Bale well what can I say other then he really plays Bruce Wayne/Batman very well. He has that charm of a playboy as Bruce and that feel of Batman when he put on the suit.
As for Cinematography it was very well done and Wally Pfister did a fine job at it and Christopher Nolan knows what he wants and how he wants to get it on film. The action, story, and editing are all very well done.
There are a few flaws here and there. But it's not enough to bring down the film. If you looking for a good summer movie here it is. But to mom and dad really think long and hard about taking the little ones with you. This is a very Dark movie. But that's the way Batman is supposed to be.
